Marcus grew up as Roman elite… so at a young age he was educated by some great philosophers such as Seneca and Epictetus with the intention of him taking a place in the Roman senate.

The philosophy he was taught and then wrote about is called stoicism.

Stoicism is not a religion, but a way of thinking to help you deal with the inevitable pitfalls and stress of everyday life.

Caesar Aurelius’ writings weren’t intended to be published as a book. This free ebook he wrote is called ‘Meditations’ because they were mantras he lived by… and lessons he learned from the stress of leading a colossal empire.

Stoics believe in fate… and if you also believe in fate; this philosophy becomes very easy to adopt.

But you don’t need to believe in fate to appreciate and benefit from stoic teachings.

One of the cornerstones of stoic philosophy is that we may not always have control over what’s going on around us; but we do have control over how we react to it.

This way of thinking has inspired generations of leaders and thinkers the virtues of tolerance and self control.

Stoicism these days is a term for someone who remains calm under pressure and avoids emotional extremes – someone who rids themselves of negative emotion.

The Stoics believed that most things in life are ‘not up to us’ and out of our control such as:

  • The actions and opinions of other people
  • Health
  • Our reputation
  • Our wealth

Although we are able to influence these things to some degree; ultimately these things are out of our complete control.

The things the stoics believe are ‘up to us’ are things that come from our mind such as:

  • Our opinions
  • Moral Judgments
  • Beliefs
  • Desires
  • Goals

Stoics believe that people set themselves up for misery and sadness because they base their happiness on things they cannot control – which was described by the philosopher Epictetus as “self-imposed slavery”.

This means that a stoic’s happiness is not dependent on things outside of their control…

Here’s a great quote from the philosopher Seneca:

“It is in no mans power to have whatever he wants. But he has it in his power not to wish for what he hasn’t got – and cheerfully make the most of the things that do come his way”

The stoics used philosophy as a tool that can sculpt and shape our character into an impenetrable fortress – one capable of withstanding struggles and adversity with calmness and strength.

A famous stoic quote (Epictetus) “We suffer not from the events in our lives, but our judgments about them”… a quote that resonates with modern psychology, religions such as Christianity and Buddhism and the self-help movement.

This way of thinking focuses on changing the self defeating attitudes people form about their life circumstances.

Let’s face it. Life is difficult… but all too often, television, movies and social media lead us to believe that everyone should be living a magical fairy tale life. And this belief system sets us up with high expectations.

Stoics believe that anger, misery and sadness arise when misplaced hope smashes into an unforeseen reality…

Anger and sadness only arise when something is considered ‘bad’ while being unexpected. But you don’t get sad and angry when it we get caught in an unexpected storm – even though it’s cold, wet and unpleasant. That’s because we have learned to expect storms.

That’s what the stoics want you to understand. You should learn to expect betrayal, misfortune, accidents, theft etc… So when it eventually happens, you can handle the stress better. A wise and stoic person should aim to reach a state where nothing can suddenly disturb their piece of mind.

This doesn’t mean we should be pessimistic – it just means we should be realistic… and not let external circumstances affect our happiness.

Expectation management: this is a concept that should be taught in school. We should apply this with our own thinking – but also with dealing with others such as business, parenting, friendships etc…

Failure to meet expectations results in disappointment, anger and sadness.

  • So next time you take a vacation, remind yourself that the weather might not be perfect.
  • There is probably going to be a screaming baby sitting next to you on the flight (don’t get angry, take earplugs).
  • Tell your boss your project will be ready on Friday when in reality; you should have it ready (four days before) on Monday.
  • Remind your kids that Santa needs room in his present sack for other children too…
  • When you’re going to be home late from work; tell your wife/husband that you’ll be home at 9pm when you’re expecting it to be closer to 8pm

With social media and television giving people false impressions of what their lives should be like, stoicism is a great tool to bring our life expectations back to reality…

If we can learn to rewire our brain to let-go of circumstances that are out of our control – only then will we be truly happy.  These are the lessons that children need to learn in school. These are lessons young and old must learn in order to survive the hardships of today.

Remember: Fat doesn’t make you fat – fat combined with carbohydrate makes you fat.

Remember when ‘experts’ used to tell us not to eat any more than two eggs a week? Now they say you can eat all the eggs you want. These are the same experts also told us that sugar is safe – when in reality sugar is a carcinogen (cancer loves to feed on sugars).

Consuming too much sugar spikes your insulin levels… over time; your body develops insulin resistance. A little bit of insulin resistance causes weight gain, but if the problem worsens, you can develop diabetes.

“But I limit my sugar intake”

When you eat carbohydrate (including wholegrains), your body turns those carbs directly into sugar to be used as fuel… so if you have a high carbohydrate diet; you’re essentially on a high sugar diet. In fact, some carbs turn into more sugar than eating pure sugar itself!

“But what about all that cholesterol?”

Your body needs cholesterol. We need it for just about every bodily function. Most of our hormone production is dependent on it. We need cholesterol to produce a chemical in our brains called serotonin (serotonin is a feel-good hormone). Your body needs cholesterol for cell function and repair.

Because cholesterol is so essential, your body produces its own (in the liver) to meet your daily needs.

The reason our body thrives on fat is because it’s a diet that our ancestors thrived on for thousands of years – a diet based on animal protein and fat. This is why similar diets such as the Paleo diet work.

The ‘lipid hypothesis’ is a scam

The lipid hypothesis is the cornerstone of the ‘fat makes you fat’ lie… and although this hypothesis has no scientific proof or conclusive research to back it up; certain industries perpetuate the myth because there is so much profit in it.

Pharmaceutical companies make billions out of cholesterol lowering drugs, so they ‘educate’ doctors on how ‘harmful’ high cholesterol levels are. When in reality, using total cholesterol as a marker for heart disease is outdated.

Total cholesterol really doesn’t tell us much, unless it is too low, in which case we need to assist the liver to raise our cholesterol levels.

We are fed diet lies all-the-time for profit:

A classic example of ‘food experts’ lying to us is the widely believed myth: ‘Breakfast is the most important meal of the day’… this is a lie. The word breakfast literally means ‘to break your fast’. Fasting is where you go for a controlled period of time without eating – and is great for weight loss.

You have probably heard of the new weight loss buzzword ‘intermittent fasting’ – this is where you skip breakfast and eat an early lunch, then eat an early dinner. Of course you won’t see this type of diet talk popularized on your favorite chat show because selling breakfast products to the masses is a billion dollar industry.

Mainstream TV will never promote the ketosis diet because if everyone started following it, the outcome would be catastrophic to dozens of mega corporations and industries that make hundreds of billions of dollars promoting the current false ‘healthy eating plan’; such as low-fat diet foods, and cholesterol lowering medications.

When people start to take notice of diets such as keto or paleo; the wheat industry or the sugar industry (or any other corporation with an agenda) always produces a paid ‘expert’ for dietary advice on your favorite morning chat show to muddy the waters – telling you that you need to eat breakfast, eat a lot of wholegrains, and be sure to eat at least 5 servings of fruit and veg every day (this last line is also a clever marketing lie to sell more produce).

The Top 10 Cancer Causing Foods That We All Eat Regularly

Most of us don’t really question the safety of the foods we eat… although we have heard that some of these foods may be unhealthy, we assume that the government has set standards that protect us from the ones that cause cancer.

Despite the fact that scientists agree that these foods or food additives are carcinogenic; they can’t be conclusively proven to cause cancer via a clinical double blind test, therefore; they are labeled “safe” – not because they have been proven to be safe, but because they can’t be proven not to be safe.

This hollow safety loophole has allowed a plethora of carcinogens into foods that we all eat regularly.

You would think that a suspected carcinogen would be enough for it to be banned or regulated, but if a large corporate entity is making enough money using a particular ingredient or chemical, they will use all their influences and resources to continue to use it… When you see companies like Monsanto getting away with murder, you get a glimpse of how much power these giant corporations really have.

The good news is that there is usually an alternative you can opt for, greatly reducing your exposure levels to these cancer causing toxins.

 

  1. Hot Food Served in a Plastic Bag or Container

Plastic containers are a cheap and easy way to serve, store and deliver food, but most people don’t know that these plastics contain Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical that, once ingested, mimics estrogen in our bodies. These synthesized estrogens are called “xeno-estrogens” (“xeno” meaning foreign). This chemical is responsible for hormone related cancers – notably breast and prostate cancer.

Frozen dinners are at the top of the naughty list

The Scientific American reported that hot food served in heated plastic containers absorbs chemicals 55 times faster than room temperature containers.  So avoid buying hot food served with plastic, never microwave food with plastic and never pour hot liquid into a plastic container. Don’t be fooled into using “microwave safe” plastics as it only means that your container won’t warp from the heat.

This rule extends to plastic water bottles, you may think that refilling your bottle is a cost-savvy and environmentally conscious idea, but these bottles are designed for one-use-only; so constant use will expose your water to higher concentrations of BPA over time. This is especially true if you leave the bottle to warm in the sunlight.

 

  1. Unnatural Cooking Oils

Unnatural cooking oils are oils that have been chemically removed from their source. In most cases the chemical process causes the oil to stink; so they have to be deodorized and then colored to be more appealing to consumers.

Chemically produced oils contain high levels of Omega–6 fatty acids. An excess of Omega- 6 fatty acids is a leading cause of heart disease and an increase in various other cancers, especially skin cancer.

Many of these unnatural oils contain trans-fats, but don’t be fooled into thinking that trans-fat free oils like rice-bran oil are healthier… if you want to consume healthy oils, choose the ones that are cold pressed such as extra-virgin olive oil or coconut oil.

The reason these unnatural oils remain popular is because olive oil can’t withstand high cooking temperatures and coconut oil leaves a distinct coconut taste.

Although we have all been told to avoid fat in our diet; natural fats – even animal fats are far healthier than chemically produced oils.  People who follow the Paleo diet or Ketosis diet use duck fat as an alternative to fry at high temperatures. The French have been using it for centuries, and they have far lower rates of obesity and heart disease than the rest of the western world. The same goes for margarine; use butter.

 

  1. Artificial Sweeteners

Everyone knows that soda pop is bad for us, so it makes sense to opt for the sugar free versions – right?.

Unfortunately, this is like jumping out of the fry pan and into the fire; because nearly all diet soda’s contain artificial sweeteners that contain the toxic chemical – aspartame (with the exception of stevia; which is a natural sugar-free sweetener).

Aspartame was originally approved  on July 26, 1974, but objections filed by neuroscience researcher Dr. John W. Olney and consumer attorney James Turner, as well as investigations of G.D. Searle’s research caused the FDA to put aspartame approval on hold. But In 1985, Monsanto purchased G.D. Searle and made Searle Pharmaceuticals and The NutraSweet Company separate subsidiaries. Then all of a sudden aspartame was approved (funny that).

4. Canned Food

There are some canned foods that are so darn convenient…

Canned fruits like peaches or pineapple; which are not only cheap and delicious, but they keep in your pantry for as long as you need them. And for anyone who likes to cook Italian, there are always a couple of tins of canned tomatoes sitting on their shelf.

Unfortunately, the health benefits of these fruits have been outweighed by the health dangers.

The problem is that nearly all cans are lined with; a chemical called bisphenol-A (BPA).

According to the US National Library of Medicine; BPA has been shown to play a role in the pathogenesis of several endocrine disorders including female and male infertility, brain and behavior problems, precocious puberty, hormone dependent tumors such as breast and prostate cancer and several metabolic disorders including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25813067

 

5. Potato Chips

You’re probably thinking, “how can potato chips cause cancer”?

Most potato chips contain acrylamide; a known carcinogen (also found in cigarettes).

Unfortunately, this insidious chemical is found in many other highly processed foods such as cookies, cereals, bread and crackers. But potato chips are found to be particularly hazardous… so-much-so that the state of California sued potato chip manufacturers for not issuing a warning to consumers about the possible health risks. So In 2008, potato chip companies lowered the levels of acrylamide just enough to get away with not having to add a warning sticker.

 

6. Microwave Popcorn

It’s not popcorn that is carcinogenic, it’s the convenient bags they are microwaved in that’s the problem.

Microwavable popcorn bags are lined with a toxic chemical called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA).  This harmful toxin is also found in Teflon (a good reason to never buy a cheap Teflon fry pan).

The U.S. EPA (2005) concluded that evidence was suggestive that PFOA is carcinogenic in humans. In its review of that risk assessment, three of the four members of the EPA scientific advisory board concluded more strongly that PFOA was “likely to be carcinogenic in humans” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2920088/

 

7. Farmed Salmon

Many people who eat salmon think they are eating healthy, but scientists have revealed that eating farmed salmon heightens the risk of cancer.

Wild caught salmon is different… but unfortunately, 95% of salmon served in restaurants and supermarkets is farmed salmon.

The reason why farmed salmon is considered bad for your health is because of the conditions they are raised in. Because these poor fish are cramped up in such small pens, disease and sea lice becomes a big problem… so farmers feed them antibiotics and pesticides.

The food pellets they are fed is unnatural – which turns the flesh a brown color. The natural red color wild salmon have is because of a certain type of krill they eat. So farmers feed their salmon chemicals to alter the flesh pigment to make them seem wild caught.

Chemicals found in farmed salmon contain a wide range of dangerous industrial pollutants. These include poisonous pesticides, cancer-causing PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), dioxins, dieldrin and toxaphene… as well as hormone disrupting chemicals known as PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers).

 

8. Highly Processed White Flours, Refined Sugars

Although we have all heard that white flour is bad for us, not many of us know why.

The refining process destroys all of the nutrients of the wheat. Traditionally, flour is left to whiten over time, but these days flour mills take a shortcut and choose to bleach the flour with chlorine gas.

Like all carbohydrates, once eaten, the body turns the flour into sugar (which it burns). White flour has a very high glycemic rate which means once ingested, white flour is converted into more sugar than eating sugar itself. Over time, this causes insulin resistance which causes diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.

In the past and still today, obesity is blamed on fat consumption… when in reality; sugar is the real culprit (this includes processed carbohydrates). Advocates of the ketogenic diet believe all natural fats are good for you – so they cut out sugar and eat all the fat they want while losing a staggering amount of weight. The ketogenic diet has been proven to heal insulin resistance, as well as metabolic syndrome.

Cancer (as well as Alzheimer’s disease) loves to feed on sugar. This is why sugar and refined flour is so dangerous.

 

9. Non Organic Fruits & Vegetables

Most of us are aware of the toxic pesticides that farmers spray on their fruit and vegetables to make their living more profitable.  But the alternative; organic fruit and vegetables is expensive. This is why most people ignore the risks of non-organic produce.

Let’s face it, unless we get a decent pay rise – we’re probably going to continue to eat non-organic, but let’s look at the worst offenders so we can be conscious about it and possibly make some different choices in the future… or at least wash them more rigorously.

Apples – found to have the residue of 45 different pesticides

Strawberries & Blueberries – up to 50 different pesticides

Grapes – you may think twice about pinching a grape while shopping as they can be covered with up to 50 different pesticides.

Celery – a bad offender; with up to 60 different pesticides.

Peaches – another terrible offender with up to 60 different pesticides.

Spinach & Lettuce – be sure to wash before eating as it can contain up to 50 different pesticides

Bell Peppers (Capsicum) – covered in up to 50 different pesticides

Cucumbers – Be sure to peel the skin before eating as cucumbers are covered with a whopping 80 different pesticides.

 

10. Processed meats

Processed meats include; bacon, ham, sausages, salami, bologna – basically all deli meats.

These meats have been treated for preservation and for flavor. The processes includes smoking, fermenting, curing, and salting.

The preservative sodium nitrite kills bacteria in ham, salami and other processed meats and also gives them a natural pink color. Twenty experts from 11 different countries reviewed more than 700 clinical studies to reach their conclusions. The findings determined that eating 50 grams of deli meats every day heightened the risk of colon cancer by 20%.

 

So there you have it. It is a shame that the cancer foundation hasn’t made an effort to educate the public of these dangers. But on the bright side, there is usually a healthy alternative to each of these danger foods. And at the very least, practice eating them in moderation.

The Alarming Links Between Behavioral Disorders & EMF

Are parents willing to sacrifice some conveniences for the sake of their children’s health?

Anti-vaccine advocates are often the target of ridicule, but at the end of the day… all they want is what’s best for their children.

But can these anti-vax activists go without their WIFI? Can they live a life without the convenience of technology? Because there is far more proof that electromagnetic frequency exposure can cause ADHD and autism.

In this ever evolving age of technology we live in; we are constantly bombarded with non-iodizing radiation.

Iodizing radiation will quickly kill you… but non-iodizing radiation will slowly erode your health… much like the way the waves of the ocean slowly wears away rocks of the shoreline. It’s for this reason scientists are unable to conduct clinical double blind testing to report undeniable evidence.

“Experts” claim EMF is safe… not because they have proven it to be safe; but because it can’t be proven not to be safe.

Would you let your young child swim unsupervised because it can’t be proven that they’ll drown?

The World Health Organization released a report that low non-iodizing radiation is a possible carcinogen. The report stated that it’s not conclusive, but highly probable.

The study also recognized the fact that electro-hypersensitivity was a detrimental medical condition.

Kids these days are tethered to their devices 24/7… they use computers at school, they walk around using their ipad or phone, they come home and play computer games, then do their homework on their computer… and in many cases sleep near their computer or phone.

ADHD and autism used to be virtually non-existent, but in the last 20 years, these disorders have boomed exponentially… nowadays, ADHD has become so common, it’s now considered normal.

There is no question that constant exposure of EMF is disrupting children’s delicate undeveloped brains…

We are electrical beings. Our bodies are finely tuned machines that depend on a series of electro-chemical reactions. Nerve transmission is electricity… the conduction of electrical impulses is what our nervous system and brain rely on…

The human body simply wasn’t designed to deal with this explosion of EMF activity in today’s environment.

Side note: EMF also disrupts the pineal gland. The pineal is a pea sized gland centered in your brain.  It produces chemicals such as serotonin; which is responsible for making you feel happy. And it also secretes melatonin which is a chemical that has been widely documented to fight cancer. The pineal gland is light sensitive, so as the sun goes down, your pineal gland begins to go to work and helps you go to sleep. When the sun rises, your body stops the melatonin production signaling you to wake up… EMF simulates blue light, (which is a natural electro-magnetic energy) which means as the sun goes down, EMF “tricks” the pineal gland to remain inactive.

Without the pineal gland producing enough melatonin, the risk of cancer rises – especially the types that are hormone dependent, like breast and prostate cancers.

Unless you live off the grid or live in an Amish community, EMF is impossible to escape… but there are various degrees of measures you can take to limit you and your family’s exposure.

At the very least, turn off your WIFI router before you go to sleep. Try to limit as many electrical devices you can in the bedroom – especially charging phones, charging laptops and wireless landline phones. This is especially important for your baby’s nursery. And whatever you do NEVER use a baby monitor.

The first and most obvious reason that many of the great pyramids were not used for burial sites is that they are not decorated with hieroglyphics – which was an important feature for all Egyptian tombs.

Secondly, because tomb raiders were a constant worry – burial sites were traditionally hidden in the valley of the kings so that the mummy would rest in peace undisturbed. Not buried in plain sight in the most recognizable buildings in the world.

For these reasons, keep an open mind that the great pyramids were used for something else.

Dr Abd’el Hakim Awyan is a native Egyptian archeologist elder who has been endowed with knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation – and he believes that the pyramids were used for sound healing.

How ‘Grounding’ is the Greatest Discovery Since Penicillin

A film maker in the Alaskan wilderness who suffers from severe back pain, has to complete is daily chores if he wants to survive… despite the freezing temperatures, he climbs under his house where there is no snow, strips down so he can become ‘grounded’ with the Earth… not long after, he feels a sensation of well being… the next morning his back pain is gone.

The Healing Power of Sound

Whats the big deal with sound frequencies? 

Everything in the universe has its own resonant frequency.

When you break things down to an atomic level, nothing can truly be regarded as a solid. All matter, whether it’s a solid, liquid or gases are composed of the tiniest particles called atoms. And these atoms are made up of smaller particles called protons, neutrons and electrons. And these particles are made up of even smaller matter such as quarks, bosons and leptons.

Which means; at an atomic level, the thoughts we think and the air we breathe and the sounds we hear are just as real as steel or stone.

Everything is made up of the same principal particles. What makes them different is the arrangement of these particles and the way they are bound together. This is what makes up a substance.

Even the universe also vibrates at its own frequency.

Recently, two physicists at The University of Southern Mississippi, Lawrence Mead and Harry Ringermacher, have discovered that the universe is not only be expanding, but also oscillating or “ringing” at the same time. Their paper on the topic has been published in the April 2015 issue of the Astronomical Journal.

Sound Therapy in Modern Medicine

Modern medicine uses sound frequencies for many different applications. The most widely known use is ultrasound.

Although ultrasound equipment appears silent, the high frequencies they emit are far more intense than the scream of a jet engine.

Reconnect with the Schumann Resonance for Optimum Health

How the Earth’s ‘heartbeat’ is the key to natural health

 

This ‘heartbeat’ is a frequency that the Earth emits – as a result of 50 bursts of lightning flashing around the world at any given moment. It’s called the Schumann resonance… named after the scientist who discovered it:  Winfried Schumann.

Because this low pulsating frequency (7.83 Hz) has been present since day one, every creature on Earth has evolved with a dependence to it.

Scientific research has proven our need for the Earth’s heartbeat.

Professor R. Wever from the Max Planck Institute for Behavioural Physiology in Erling-Andechs, built an underground bunker which completely screened out the Schumann resonance. Student volunteers lived there for four weeks in this hermetically sealed environment.

Professor Wever noted that the student’s circadian rhythms diverged and that they suffered emotional distress and migraine headaches. As they were young and healthy, no serious health conditions arose… which wouldn’t have been the case with older people or people with a weaker immune system.

After only a brief exposure to 7.8 Hz (the very frequency which had been screened out), the volunteers health stabilized again.

It was this study that lead to the cure of “space sickness” – a feeling of nausea and headaches that early astronauts had been complaining about.  To fix this, artificial Schumann Resonators were installed into every space craft, and still are to this day.

The Cascading Effects of Anger

Anger can be a poisonous emotion

 

Much like how a smile can be infectious… so can anger. By letting negative emotions get the better of you; it fans the embers of negativity around people close to you as well.

Depending on your temperance, life is full of anger triggers. Yet even the most placid person can have their limits pushed – ask any parent. Add an unreasonable employer into the mix, and combine that with a new diet (“hangry”) and then try to drive home in rush hour traffic and see what happens.

Some people don’t even realize they have been poisoning themselves with anger. It only takes a micro moment to shout out a four letter word – such as your favorite team fumbling the ball, or your internet freezing when you need to urgently send an email, or when somebody won’t let you change lanes on the motorway.

You don’t even need to shout out in anger… muttering profanities under your breath or playing out a negative scenario in your head (like telling your boss what you think of him) is just as detrimental.

These angry emotions wreck havoc on your heart. Countless studies have proven that anger triggers the body’s “fight or flight” response (an evolutionary response from our cavemen ancestors) which floods the body with adrenaline and cortisol (the primary stress hormone).

Stress also triggers this “fight or flight” response.

But when your body is constantly subjected to spikes in cortisol; the long term heath dangers can be severe.

The most dangerous health issue is how cortisol causes calcification of the heart and arteries. This has a cascading effect which triggers carbohydrate cravings which cause insulin resistance (high blood sugar levels) and obesity. Insulin resistance and obesity is the catalyst for type-2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome and high blood pressure. From there; problems with low immunity, bone density and reduced libido can be expected.

Now if you didn’t realize the root cause of these diseases (anger, stress), your first reaction would be to seek medical advice; your doctor would prescribe you medication.

High blood pressure meds have terrible side effects which only make matters worse by creating new ailments – which require more drugs.

Controlling your Anger

Anger is often a gateway to stress. If you have better control of your anger, the less likely you are to become stressed.

Meditation is an incredible tool for combating anger issues as well as stress. So if you’re a cool headed yet burdened by the stress of your responsibilities; taking time out of the day to decompress with meditation will do wonders for your health.

If you have ever tried meditation, you will have noticed that breathing exercises are an important part of the activity. This is because certain breathing techniques will lower your heart rate and regress your brainwaves to a calmer state.

But if sitting in the lotus position chanting “OM” isn’t your thing; simple breathing exercises while you sit at your desk while trying to clear you mind of thoughts will have a huge impact on you state of mind and mood.

Be mindful of “first world problems”

Try to look at things from a broader picture. Journaling is a great way to prevent bottling-up your anger. And it also highlights the fact that things “aren’t so bad”; especially when you compare your problems to people from disadvantaged countries.

First world problem: My wife used up most of the hot water – now I can only have a short, luke-warm shower.

Third world problem: Billions of people have never experienced a hot shower.

First world problem: It takes forever to get home in rush hour traffic.

Third world problem: Billions of people don’t have a car, or a nice place to come home to… let alone a decent job to come home from.

So when you notice you are in a bad mood; try doing your breathing exercises at your desk.  If you have trouble clearing your mind; try thinking of all the things you are grateful for instead.

If controlling your anger is a constant battle; remember that popping a pill (sedatives, anti –depression meds) often leads to serious side effects down the road.

Although meditation can seem difficult to begin with, the health benefits are immense.
